Woodburn School Board Votes to not Administer State Assessments

At Tuesday, March 27 night's School Board meeting, board directors passed a resolution not to administer the Smarter Balanced Assessment or other state-mandated tests unless a parent/guardian requests it. This decision was made after considering multiple factors, and it was determined to be in the best approach for meeting students' needs. What does this mean for Woodburn students? Schools will continue to assess student learning through school-based metrics. This decision allows for a focus on instruction for the remainder of the school year. Teachers and staff will prioritize the instructional core and support both the academic and social-emotional needs of all students. Parents/guardians may request their child take one or more of the state assessments by contacting the school office by May 24. English language arts and mathematics are available for grades 3-8 and grade 11. Science is available for grades 5, 8 and 11. This decision does move the district out of compliance with Division 22 standards, and the district will submit a plan to the Oregon Department of Education to administer all state assessments during the 2021-22 school year. This action allows for students to focus on engaging in learning and completing coursework for their classes by the end of the school year.

Principal’s Message

Welcome to Lincoln, home of the Dolphins!  We are a bilingual school of learners.  This school year students, families and staff have been working hard in Comprehensive Distance Learning, and will continue this spring until further notice.

Teachers and staff reach out to families daily to communicate and Mr. Courtney, our assistant principal, is working hard every day to keep Lincoln's website and announcements up to date.  Family and school partnership is vital in student success, and this challenging time is connecting us in great ways.

Although we are not on campus, there are some very exciting things happening while we stay safe at home.  The new building is getting closer to being completed every day!  The cafeteria is bigger!  The new playground is coming!  The new parking lot and entry into the building have been redesigned and are beautiful!

I wish you all a safe and healthy spring!

Sincerely,
Ms. Flynn
